Gettin' Skinny

Week 10:
I apologize for not updating this as often as I hoped I'd be able to. I've been  busy on Sundays lately! Anyways, things have been going really well lately. Back at week six, I was only down about 5 lbs- I'll blame my trip to Mexico for it not being more than that. But I'm happy to say since I've been back I've shed a few more pounds and am now down about 12! Just this week, I have started running every morning with a couple girlfriends of mine. We've been averaging about 6.1 miles per day. We are hoping to run a half marathon in October, and not to mention, ready for bikini season this summer! So my cardio workouts have been really great this past month. I probably need to do more body weight circuits to keep up my strength training. Other than that, I am just planning on continuing what I'm doing and make healthy choices while not starving or depriving myself of a treat every once in awhile. It's slow and steady, but I'm seeing results so I am a happy camper!

TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS: -12 lbs

Week Six:
Went to Mexico. Got fat. Not really, but I did go off my diet. I've had a little bit of a hard time getting back on to it. But I'm restarting it today. I'm going to St Maartins with my best friends, Kitty and Cupcake at the end of June. My goal is to keep it up until then. I will say I felt great in Mexico in my swimsuit. Always room for improvement, but I felt better than I have in a long time. Anyways, I will be back to checking in on Sundays starting this week!

Week Four:
So this week went fairly well. I did A LOT of running! I've been running with my girls in practice and on my own at night around The Hill. It is actually becoming quite addicting! I worked out 5 of the 7 days this week; I did Insanity with my lacrosse team and had a personal training session with Kitty apart from runnning.
I will say that the GM diet sucks. I would not recommend it to anyone that doesnt have a lot of weight to lose. I actually gained all the weight back that I lost last week which tells me that most of what I lost was probably just water weight. So I basically starved myself for nothing and am now a week behind and feeling somewhat discouraged after seeing the numbers on the scale go back up. However, I did say that I am not going off of weight. My clothes are fitting different so that is a plus! I had to go buy two new pairs of jeans because my old pairs were just too loose. And people around me are starting to take notice which I think is a compliment that they are able to recognize my hard work. I'm feeling healthier and hope this week will continue to go well because I will be in a bikini in Mexico in one week!!

At this point, I don't care how long it takes, I just want to continue to see the results- whether that's on the scale or in the mirror!

TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS: -5 lbs

Week Three:
I just got done with the GM diet. I lost 4 lbs last week! So that is really great, but the diet was pretty hard; I felt starved the whole week. However, I do feel like I have a lot more energy- that could be all mental though. For exercise this week, Kitty and I did a lot of different activities to keep ourselves moving. One evening we went to Bikram Yoga which was amazing! Very hard, but I am excited to go back! We also went for an hour long walk downtown and around the Arch where we did a series of workouts on the Arch stairs. I worked out 4 of the 7 days this week. I'm starting to feel really good. People around me are starting to notice a change, and my clothes are starting to feel loose.
Anyways, for this week I am going to challenge myself to run for at least 45 minutes everyday. To make it a little more fun, I am going to do an interval run where I will run to the pace of the song playing on my Ipod. I listen to country all the time and have made a playlist that has ALL my favorite songs on it. During the fast songs I will sprint and during the slow songs I will walk or jog depending on the tempo! Hopefully this will help me with my hopeless rhythm too!

TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS: -8 lbs

Week Two:
This week was a bit rough on the diet with Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras! I was only able to make it to the gym 3 days this week; they were really great sessions. Each day I go a little farther/longer than the day before so that's a plus! I did not lose any weight this week though.
I am starting a cleanse tomorrow with my best friend Kat. I'll put the link up so that you can do it too! If you want to wait until next Sunday to see if it works- it does say that after one week on the cleanse, you should lose 10 lbs. So we'll see if it works! Anyways, hope everyone's "gettin' skinny!"

Week One:
The first week of my "Gettin' Skinny" program has gone really well. It has actually been really easy too. I know I said I wasnt going to go by weight, and I'm not, but it is a more efficient way of knowing if I'm on the right track. So far I have lost four pounds. It works out to a little over half a pound a day which I am very happy about! Here is what I have done so far:
cut out soda, sub water. I carry around a Tervis mug with me everywhere I go.
- cut your portions in half. If you're eating out, ask for a to-go box with your meal and put half of it in the box before you even begin eating- that way you won't be tempted to eat the whole thing.
- cardio and weight circuits. I worked out 5 of the 7 days this week. I start my workout doing anywhere from 30-45 minutes of cardio. I have really enjoyed my running and elliptical interval workouts where I will sprint for 1 minute and jog for another. I find I stick with it longer than if I am just going at one pace for the whole time. After I am finished with cardio I will do a light lift. I am trying to avoid the bulky workouts of my college years so I use fairly light weights that will just help me tone my muscles instead. Also I alternate my workouts by arms and legs and always finish with abs.
- snack. I've done the diets where I starve myself and only eat like an apple a day- and while they're somewhat effective at first- they don't really work, and I end up gaining everything back when I realize I like food too much to starve. So I have been carrying protein bars or tangerines with me to snack on throughout the day when I feel hungry.
- no sweets. Simple as that. Don't reach for the cookie or order dessert. It can sometimes be really hard but don't do it.
